Fairytale of Coppull - Open Mic

Fabulous evening with some excellent singing, and superb soup. Thanks to everyone who sang. Thanks to Karl and Lynne for putting on the soup and mince pies. We took £115 towards the 2008 folk festival. If you missed Karl's Privateers click Read More to see the words.

Karls Privateers (to the tune of Barrett's Privateers)

Oh, the year was twenty zero seven
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
When a score of men were turned quite green
By the scummiest soup you've ever seen

Chorus
God damn them all, I was told
This soup was worth its weight in gold
With hunger we would holler and whoop
But it's a foolish man who shows no fear
At a bowl of Karl's pea and ham soup

Oh, Karl Davies cried the town
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
For twenty brave men, a masochist group
Would slurp for him his pea and ham soup

This motley crew was a sickening sight
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
There was caveman Phil with his eyes a glow
He'd a cast iron stomach and his bowels would flow

Well we hadn't been there but an hour or two
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
When a voice said: Let me join the queue
And Keel haul Kevin hove into view

Now Keel haul Kevin was a frightening man
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
He was gnarled and battered with teeth askew
He said: Pass that bowl I want some too

Kevin took one sip and pitched on his side
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
Davies was smashed in the cellar full of kegs
And Elvis's breath set fire to both me legs

So here I lay in a pool of second hand soup
(How I wish I'd never tried it now)
It's been ten years since I felt this bad
When I tried the soup as a lad
