December 5 2007 - Anthony John Clarke Pops In

ImageAnthony John Clarke joined us for our regular singaround on 5 December 2007 when he found himself in Coppull with out anything to do on a Wednesday night. As it wasn't Tuesday it wasn't karaoke! Great to hear a couple of his news songs and enjoy his generous encouragement of all of us amateurs. If you don't know Anthony John's work then please visit his website and take a look at performances on youtube , but most of all catch an opportunity to see him in 2008. Best wishes to Anthony as he tours with Fairport Convention from the end of January.

Andy Clarke Visits From Devon

ImageAndy Clarke dropped into our singaround on Wednesday 14th October 2007 as he was staying locally. Peter Coe says of Andy "An excellent singer and instrumentalist who performs with the skill and taste of a master craftsman". So he proved to be with a couple of fantastic songs with excellent support from his bouzouki and guitar. If you enjoyed his music then you can hear more at Fleetwood Folk Club on Thursday 15 October or visit Andy's myspace page

Mark Claydon Makes His Mark

Mark was able to join us for our singaround on Wednesday 5 September. Playing his guitar with his usual relaxed style, which looks deceptively effortless, he performed a couple of great melodies. Interested in his music then visit his Myspace Site

The Blatchleys are Back

We all enjoyed the return visit of the Blatchleys. Jamie is better known as James , host of the Chorley FM folk programme. Simon, his father,  joined him at the Alison Arms. They joined our singaround enthusiatically, singing song most of us have never heard before; or in some cases heard so long ago we had forgotten them.

Steve Chatterley Calls In

We all enjoyed Steve Chatterley returing to visit on Wednesday 5 September. For many years Steve was a vital part of the club, keeping it going through bad times and contributing so often to the good times. More recently we seem him perhaps a couple of time a year.

Seven Stars is no more. Long live the Orwell

OrwellWith the recent demise of the Seven Stars in Wigan, things looked dire for live folk music on a Thursday night. The breach was quickly filled with Geoff organising a singaround at the Orwell, 50 yards down the road adjacent to Wigan Pier, starts 8.30 and finishes 11.30 every Thursday. Very easy to find, simply follow the signs to Wigan Pier and your there. Joan Blackburn groupies need not worry, she might not be organising it but she has been seen and heard at every Orwell gathering to date - enjoying a back seat for a change.
